Post by Mauveduh » Sun Oct 03, 2004 11:58 pm

Naynay just answered 7 questions correctly so we have a few more that are still eligible for points. I will also post some new ones.

Remaining questions from last month that have not been answered.

13. Thanksgiving is the day the most food is eaten in the United States. What is the second biggest day?

28. How many steps from the foundation to the top of the torch in the Statue of Liberty?

29. Who was the only major league baseball player to win batting titles in 3 different decades ? He won in 1976, 1980 and 1990.

30. How many dimples on a regulation golf ball?

Here are more questions for the trivia challenge. Brush up on your facts.

1. Which Beatle had the first number 1 hit single following the group's breakup? Get an extra point if you know the song.

2. There was a highly publicized "Battle of the Bonds" between original Bond icon Sean Connery and Roger Moore. Because Connery's return to the film role was not produced by Eon Productions in England (and UA/MGM), it's not considered an "official" James Bond film (likewise Casino Royale). What is the name of this James Bond movie?

3. What was the first song to be performed in outer space, sung by the Apollo IX astronauts on March 8, 1969.

a. Happy Birthday
b. Happy Trails
c. America the Beautiful

4. Ancient Chinese artists would never paint pictures of:

a.their mothers
b. women's feet
c. enemies

5. What was the name of Walt Disney's first cartoon character ?

Excellent guesses but not quite the answers. Try again.

I am browsing about the forum and I can't believe I haven't been in on the trivia games. Is it too late Mauveduh?

The only day where people pig out more than on Thanksgiving, has to be Academy Award Night! However, I don't think that qualifies as a holiday..does it?

You won't believe this...my son actually had to find the answer to "how many dimples on a golf ball?" for school. So I got this one. However, the dimples can range anywhere between 300-500, but the average is....
#30 - 336
okay for number 13, I guessed and missed before. I did a little research and here is what I believe the answer is to #13
#13 - Super Bowl Sunday!!!! Go A's (oops, that baseball!)
#28 - there are a total of 546 from land to top of torch. If you mean from the pedestal to the torch, then there are 192 steps. I think you mean the 546 answer.

I just saw new games...oh boy I gotta get on it.

A big Beatle fan, but its a toss up for me.
#1 George Harrison - My Sweet Lord
#2 - A guess..was it "Her Majesty's Secret Service?" I say this because this is the only Bond film I know where he gets married! (of course the wife gets killed, but still very different from all others)
#3- Has to be "Happy Birthday"
#4- b-women's feet...(ooh no..taboo!)
#5- I am sure it was Mickey Mouse, but he was called "Steamboat Willie."

Marlowe,

You've got plenty of time to jump in. I will post more. You have until the end of this month for the current contest.

You are on a roll, naynay.

(correct) #1 George Harrison - My Sweet Lord
(Sorry, try again) #2 - A guess..was it "Her Majesty's Secret Service?" I say this because this is the only Bond film I know where he gets married! (of course the wife gets killed, but still very different from all others)
(correct) #3- Has to be "Happy Birthday"
(correct) #4- b-women's feet...(ooh no..taboo!)
(sorry, try again) #5- I am sure it was Mickey Mouse, but he was called "Steamboat Willie."

(correct-approx 336) "how many dimples on a golf ball?" However, the dimples can range anywhere between 300-500, but the average is....
#30 - 336
okay for number 13, I guessed and missed before. I did a little research and here is what I believe the answer is to #13
(correct again!) #13 - Super Bowl Sunday!!!! Go A's (oops, that baseball!)

This last one is a tough one as you are not allowed to go into the torch. But at the top of the crown, there is a ladder to some steps inside and the question was the number to the top of the torch so try again on this one.

#28 - there are a total of 546 from land to top of torch. If you mean from the pedestal to the torch, then there are 192 steps. I think you mean the 546 answer.

So you have 6 correct answers with the song in addition to the artist on the first question. BRAVO!!

PS. Marlowe,

I didn't ask the night that the most Champagne and diet pills were consumed. It was the most food. They have to fit in those tight dresses at the academy awards, remember.

Then the losers have to drown their sorrows afterward and say how marvelous everyone looked while they trash the winners under their breath. ;-)

Now back at the hotel, after those elegant gowns are traded for the flannel pajamas with elastic wastes, the room service bill may qualify for another record.

Now about this trivia question of who was Walt Disney's first cartoon character. I really thought I knew my Disney...and Steamboat Willie was the first viable and commercial one I know of.

However there is one he created called "Oswald the rabbit", however it was stolen from him and he was much more careful when he created that funny looking mouse (steamboat willie). Is this what you were getting at mauveduh?

If not, then I shall feel like a complete failure in my Disney knowledge.
